A centre of excellence for Complementary Medicine
THE NATURAL HEALTH CLINIC

- Shiatsu is the Japanese method of harmonising the body’s energies, by pressing, stretching
and mobilising the muscles, joints and meridian system.
- Shiatsu is based on the holistic medical approach and meridian system of Traditional
Chinese Medicine which has been practised for centuries, dating back as early as
530 BC.
- Shiatsu was first developed as a therapy in Japan in the early 20th century, and
is a combination of a form of massage practised in Oriental cultures since the 8th
century AD known as ‘anma’, and western massage techniques.
- Shiatsu simply means ‘finger pressure’ and is a non-intrusive therapy which is practised
fully clothed, with the patient lying on a futon mat.
- Applying pressure on acupoints on the body has been proven to release enkephalins
or “happy hormones”. This can lead to deep relaxation and relief from stress and
tension. The practitioner also works on the meridian channels, freeing the body’s
ki or life-force energy, allowing it to flow naturally through the body.
- Shiatsu works not only on the physical, but also on the mental and emotional levels.
It is effective in treating a number of ailments, including stress & tension, pain,
allergies, insomnia, depression, menstrual problems, digestive problems, headaches,
migraine, back pain, sciatica, joint & muscle pain, rheumatism and arthritis.
- Here at the Natural Health Clinic our practitioners are trained to the highest standards
and are here to help you restore and maintain optimum levels of health.
